Amazon forest

AMAZON FOREST

We all know the fact that the Amazon is the largest forest in the world. Comparing to India, the Amazon is larger in its size. It is a moist broad leaf tropical forest which covers more than 40% of South America. It is particularly called as the 'Lungs of the world' as it sucks up global emission of carbon di oxide and gives oxygen. 20% of the world's oxygen comes from Amazon forest.

Nine countries share the Amazon basin—most of the rainforest, 58.4%, is contained within the borders of Brazil. The other eight countries include Peru, Columbia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guyana and Ecuador. It comprises the most diverse tract of tropical rainforest in the world with an estimated 390 billion individual trees divided into 16000 species.

It is older than 55 million years ago as it appeared following a global reduction in tropical temperature when the Atlantic Ocean had widened sufficiently to provide a warm, moist climate to the Amazon basin. So we should try our level best to save these forests. We cannot decrease the rate temperature, global warming effect, greenhouse effect by only saving these fores is not enough; we should also plant trees to save the world.

I am not insisting not to cut and use trees. Instead I am telling not to cut trees for human selfishness. If we cut one tree we should plant atleast 3 saplings in the same place or where you wish. So, this is what I want to you all who are reading this article.

PLANT TREES!
SAVE EARTH!

Some interesting facts about Amazon Forest,

·         Covering over 5.5 million square kilometres, big enough to fit 17
UK and Ireland.
·         The Amazon river has over 1000 tributaries 12 of which over 1500 km long.
·         Around 400-500indigenous Amerindian tribes call the Amazon forest as home. It's believed that about 50 of these tribes have never had contact with the outside world!
·         The Amazon has an incredibly rich eco system; there are around 40000 plant species, 1300 bird species, 3000 types of fishes, 430 species of mammals and a mind blowing 2.5 million different insects.
·         Amazon is home to a whole host of fascinating  and deadly creatures, including electric eelsflesh eating piranhas, poison dart frogs, jaguars and some seriously venomous snakes.
·         Due to the thickness of the canopy the Amazon floor is in permanent darkness. It takes around 10 minutes for the water to reach the ground.
